Please recommend a Lappy

She uses her lappy a lot and it's falling apart.

She uses it for school, bills, and running a small internet business.

I've been leaning towards recommending this Dell Latitude D520, cuz it's well equipped, on sale and in her price range.

Any other suggestions in the sub $750 range?

Any and all help appreciated, thanks 😀

I'm not impressed by Dell's build quality (keys falling off, monitor sometimes refuses to wake up and I have to do a hard restart, cheap display in general), but my folks have had two HP laptops, one of them maybe half a year, the other we've had for a good three years or so, and they've both held up well.

edit: that seems to be a good price for the specs, but like I said, build quality isn't very good. Also, see if you can lower the amount of memory and buy your own, it's almost guaranteed to be cheaper that way, especially if you're looking for 2GB

I find the opposite. I used to sell HPs and I've owned three Dells. The HP's were very flimsy, easy to flex the screen and not well built.

My oldest Inspiron 9300 is 3 years old, the only flaw is the screen is not as tight as it used to be.

Ironically, the worst laptop build quality I've ever experienced was the Asus A8Js. I used that laptop for 6 months and the entire body was covered in scratches, the palm rests and keys were faded badly, and it was generally flimsy to begin with.

you generally cannot go wrong with dell. imo even the inspiron series are well built, im much more impressed with mine then i thought i was going to be. ive been hearing rumors that dell's quality is sliding but it sure as hell doesnt seem that way to me. besides the bloatware the comes preinstalled, you can tell that dell knows what the customer wants and needs in a laptop, mainly being reliability and service after the sale.

latitude or inspiron? my roommate's latitude d620 had very good build quality. the d520 should probably have a similar level of build quality.

do note however his battery went to only 80% max. capacity after 6 months. dell's batteries are pieces of SH*T (not just speaking from my roommate's experience).

i have an hp dv2000t. i like it, good build quality, best consumer laptop keyboard i've seen (like it more than my dad's lenovo t60), looks good, and it's cheap. idk how prices will go for it though.
