Wireless router is for a "non-techie" friend. i've heard the Buffalos are good, but require additional firmware flash...

Just looking for something reliable that will require a minimal amount of fiddling...

The Buffalo does not require any Flashing.

The flashing is for adding special functions that most casual users do not need (Do not forget that you are on AnandTech the top enthusiasts Forums).

As is they provide more than most of Wireless Routers (E.g. they are WDS out of the box).

Plus you don't void your warranty like you would with the WRT54G(L) series.

Here's a thread for an install in a non-techie manner using the Linksys with a Verizon Westell 6100 DSL modem. http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...hreadid=1934875&enterthread=y&arctab=y It allows for the router to be eliminated easily (no reconfig) for troubleshooting. The neighbor's internet failed once since the install, and I was able to troubleshoot and ( they reset router to original settings) repair in minutes.

I have since gotten a Buffalo router and the same method worked for it. If there's ever (hasn't been for me) a problem, plug your ethernet cable directly into the modem and try the internet that way.
