I was thinking of getting the HYUNDAI L90D+ but a lot of people are having problems with it. So far the Viewsonic VP730B is at the top of my list. I am need something in the $300 range (give or take $50). I need something that is good all around for Games, video, and webrowsing that has dvi. I havent exactly found a samsung that meets me criterea for price. So if you have any suggestions please tell me.

BTW, at most places, you can find a $50 rebate, bringing the total to under $350.

Now i have used the 19" version of that monitor myself, & honestly, there's simply is nothing that compares.

Opticlear = teh gorgeous.

Games never looked as good as they did when i had it.

Sadly, it was just a loaner, & i wanted a 20"+ LCD, so it had to go. I so miss the finish it had, though.

How was video and web browsing? I am really split between this and the viewsonic. They are the same price after mir. And I just email viewsonic and they told me the VP730B is an 8-bit panel. So either they are lying or I am just really confused about which one to get.

Opticlear = teh garbage.

I'm glad you like looking at a mirror. If you like it so much, why not buy a CRT before they begain putting anti-glare treatments on them.

If you want to threadcrap please go somewhere else. You didn't state a reason why you don't like it so put up or shutup. I want an lcd not a crt. Contribute or GTFO!

Edit: Also I don't really care what you say now because I have read multiple reviews claiming this is one of the best 17" lcd's. So what you are saying is utter crap.

Funny how immature that response was.

Have you used an LCD with Opticlear before?

Have you noticed how 90% of laptops come with that "garbage finish"
If it's such garbage, then why do 9 out of every 10 customers i talk to where i work prefer that garbage finish?

There is no glare on that screen unless you are working under fluorescent lighting.
Then i'd say it might not be the best choice.

Try realizing your opinion is merely that before posting next time ;)

Pardon my annoyed responce, but i've worked on hundreds of LCDs with & without that brighter/sharper finish, & i can honestly say it's alot better, & easier on the eyes somehow too.
Everyone has their own preference though.

Now Xionide, for everything i did on that LCD, i was extremely satisfied with it.

If the ViewSonic is actually an 8-bit panel, that's impressive, but i didn't think there were many 8-bit panels with 8ms response time.

Either monitor would be excellent, really.

It kinda boils down to personal preference really.
I'd really recommend going into a store to actually see them first before buying.

Wow thanks for the more in depth review. And after hearing about how you used the monitors it is definately going to be the nec unless the viewsonic is using one of their new overdrive 8-bit 8ms panels. And your roast on that newb was dead on. I emailed viewsonic and asked them if it was an 8-bit yesterday and they said it was. I also called them and they said it was. So I sent a final email that letting them know I am not skrewing around about claiming that a 6-bit with dithering is an 8-bit. Hope they give me a good honest answere. I will post it here.

I didn't give a reason? Here you go:

THE SCREEN HAS A MIRROR FINISH. YOU CAN SEE YOUR REFLECTION IN IT.

I hope that helps you read it this time.

I have a notebook with that finish on it at work and it's terrible.

Yes, I'm really immature because I actually have to read code at work.

Intelligent response.

I'm gonna exit this thread, since i really don't feel like getting into a big argument over Opticlear.

If i'm gonna be honest, i didn't like X-Brite when Sony first came out with it.
I kinda thought the same things you guys do.

But then i started seeing more & more laptops with it, & then the NEC desktop LCDs, & after a bit, it really grew on me.
Now that i've used them so much, i actually really prefer it, though i didn't at first.

Another odd thing i've noticed is that non-tech savvy people (like my customers) just love it, but on forums like here, people don't seem to
Anyway, customers will see two LCDs side by side, one with Opticlear, Tru-Brite, etc., & one without.
Usually in seconds, they will have sold themselves on Opticlear.

I really would recommend looking at the monitor you buy in person.
You may not like Opticlear.
You more likely will though.

Anyway, i'm done in this thread.

Keep us posted, i'm interested to hear your review of whatever LCD it is you go with :)

My CRT has Opticlear on it according to the NEC website. :p

Anyway, I think Opticlear/X-brite is fantastic. It's what makes LCDs actually look good with graphics. But why isn't there a single 20" or higher version with that coating? The 17" and 19" ones have been around for a while but there is still no 20" one.

Xionide,

I don't really have an answer for you, but wanted to just share with you my thoughts on the Viewsonic Brand LCD's and Resolutions. I recently upgraded from my ViewSonic V17b to a Dell 2001FP. The main reason I upgraded was for the resolution. I wanted to play games at 1600 vs 1280. You might want to keep that in mind. The viewsonic is an awesome monitor. It's more crisp than the dell.

I know this wasn't what you asked, but I thought it might help in your decision.

I am using a 6600gt and 1600x1200 eats my card for dinner. 1280x1024 looks perfect to me. but thanks for your input.
