I don't think that is so bad for being under a RC5 load.
After all, you are OCing the chip, but that isn't bad.

You could probably stand a better cooler, but you didn't state what you were using.

As long as it's stable, you should be OK.
What temp does it run when not doing RC5 or anything else?
 
sounds fine to me, although personally i wouldn't run it at that temp if it could be avoided, but it's in spec 🙂
some better case ventilation may help somewhat
 
The temp looks fine to me also. Keep in mind that the cpu is made on the .25 micron process and runs at a higher voltage than the newer Celermines and Coppermines which are .18 micron, so it's probably going to run hotter than the newer chips even at it's default speed.🙂
 
Default speed @ full load it runs 50-60C usually in the high 50s. Is that safe? Do you think my case is poorly ventilated? I have an Enlight case with a fan in front sucking air through those little holes. I have another case, should I try switching everything?

Also, the temps I got while OC'ing were due to the fact that I had my case open and a fan blowing on my pc.
 
Something that helped with my system and may help you: I took the front panel off of my case and used a 1/8" drill bit to enlarge the holes on the 'vent'. This significantly increased the amount of air the fan could pull in without dramatically changing the appearance of the computer, and lowered my overall temps by about 6 degrees Celsius...
 
Take the cover off. It will drop your temperatures in almost every time, no matter how good your ventilation is, but if it drops more than 4 degrees C, your case airflow is part of the problem. Move your cables around, maybe even make them "round" instead of "flat." But, as was already said, you aren't in trouble with the temps you've got.
 
i took the cover off and it only dropped 3C. Oh well I don't think I will OC this CPU. I will be getting a PIII 900 in a couple of months anyway.

It's kind of hot, but temperature readings are notoriously unreliable in absolute terms (but they are consistent), they are really more useful for comparing deltas when overclocking, adding fans etc.

If you are not experiencing heat related symptoms (complete lockups) then who cares? You may shorten the lifespan of the chip from the 12 years you would have gotten to 8 years. So what, it's a good reason to upgrade 🙂
