was gonna say...those prices are expensive. then i realize its all in canadian. heh.

your build overall is good, but is there anyway to swap out the "ultra" branded components? i mean, i have no problem with them (their x-connect 500w psu is powering my intel p4 2.4C rig) but im sure you can find a better brand.

psu - any fortron, antec, enermax, sparkle, PC&P brands?

and for the ram, get 2x512MB or 2x1GB. you'll appreciate the dual-channel instead of one single stick.

also, will you be overclocking?

No reason at this point to get an ATA drive.

Personally I'd go with a different PSU also.

Is there any other cheaper but better power supply (in canadian dollars) that someone can link me to?

Just a heads up, there's a new store called Direct Canada that has pretty good prices on their stuff. I've ordered from them once and I'm satisfied with their service (haven't ordered a computer from them but I plan to).

For example, they have a Corsair 520W power supply for under $130.00. It's been getting pretty good reviews on the web and it's not all that much more expensive than the one you listed.

Also, your processor is loads cheaper from Direct Canada than it is at Tiger Direct.

Another site that I frequent is NCIX which has decent prices and might be worth checking out.

Hope you save some cash,

Still a bad choice on hard drive, go for sata 300 aka 3 gb/s. THe one you have now is sata 150 aka 1.5 gb/s

PSU = Too big, waste of money. You could power that on a 350W with ease.

HD = Meh, the difference between SATA and SATA II is negligable to home users. It's marketing hype.

If you're building this as a gaming machine then you're spending the money in the wrong places, a 6300 would let you get a notably faster graphics card and you won't exactly be suffering in the CPU department either.

I'd take a Dell LCD 19" display over that Viewsonic. Dell is 1# in LCD image quality.

I'd choose Asus over Gigabyte for the motherboard.

PSU: Choose Antec or Enermax. Never cut corners in the PSU dept.

I noticed some links in your list lead to a dead end. You might want to fix that.

It's a revision out of date, 8mb cache. Not a bad drive but i'd be looking at the 16mb variant which will be only a few $ more and a touch faster.

what "heavy programs" are you talking about? Video games? Video Encoding/Decoding? Microsoft Word ;-) ? Please be a bit more specific! And good luck building your first comp!
