Comcast guy comes today to setup internet/tv. Once he leaves, I setup the modem with the self-install kit. Simple enough. However, when I run the installation cd, when trying to connect, no dice. It won't pick up a connection. I called comcast but they couldn't help me, except ask if everything was connected correctly. Lady told me they could send someone here in a week....after it took a week for someone to even come 5 minutes to install.

I am hoping someone here can help me.

It is an RCA cable modem. coaxial from the wall to the modem. power connected. ethernet from the modem to my computer. firewall off, anti-virus off. The only light on the modem is "internet" and it's flashing. The comcast woman said she the modem wasnt registering or some nonsense.

ipconfig gives me a 192.168 ip address. comcast supervisor said something about it being a router ip, but i don't have a router connected. released/renewed but it came back. I've restarted my computer, repowered the modem, but no progress.

My old internet service which is also cable seems to still be working. I'm not sure if that could cause any issues, but I did tell the installer guy about it.

Anyone have any ideas? they would be extremely appreciated. I'll love anyone who helps me out

Is your old modem still hooked up when you are trying to set up the Comcast modem? Also, I've been a Comcast subscriber for years and know that there's an option in the phone menu that will send a setup signal or something similar to a new piece of equipment. You could try that.

If those two things don't work, try to give Comcast support another call. I've had really good experiences with Comcast the few times I've had issues and will generally credit your account if you ask them to. You might have just gotten a sour technician, you know?

Let us know how this shakes out, OK?

old modem was not connected when trying the new one. there are 2 coaxial jacks in the room i'm trying to setup the router in. I've been using the one the guy told me to, although I have tried both.

I'll try the phone menu thing, and call them back if necessary. I think I'm too tired to do it tonight though, will do it tomorrow.

thanks for the advice!

I should have asked this before... does your TV get signal?

If so, you could try plugging your cable modem into that jack, for testing purposes..

hmm, it seems like it is my old tv service that is coming through. I told the installer that I already had internet/tv service, he didn't say anything about it being a problem. The old internet is still working as well. Do I have to have the old provider come and do something? I am hesitant to straight up cancel it, because if that was the case, I would be stuck with no internet until next week when comcast said they could come

Umm if your house is connected to the old place, how do you expect to have service to your house? What is the other cable company? Normally you can only have one provider in an area so I'm not sure what your situation is. To me it doesn't even sound like you are hooked up to the comcast network on the coax side unless the installer ran it.
