I went over to a friend's houe to install more memory and a Ethernet card. THe pC was working fine when I got there. I powered it off, put in a 256MB card and an etheret card and powered it back on. Now, the monitor is not turning on. It says "No Signal". What the hell. It has an integrated video by the way.

Make sure it is locked into place, and that there is actually power. Even if you messed up the install, the BIOS should at least come up....

Is the ethernet card you put in PCI? make sure the ethernet card and the integrated video card aren't using the same resources. also check and see if the memory module is not loose, they could be stubborn going in all the way sometime.

Even if you messed up the install

What install. There is no video at all. Nothing for me to look at.

You probably just bumped the cable or something...just go through and make sure it is plugged in tight, nothing inside is shorted, etc. There shouldn't be any major problems...

Um, the install of the RAM and NIC?

If you press the power button, and the light on the box doesnt turn on, you probably bumped the cord.

Beep codes? Take out the memory and reseat it. If you did not get the memory all the way in the BIOS will not boot. If you are getting a beep code from the motherboard (or if it is a newer one with a boot LED) you need to look up what exactly it is telling you. If you reseat the memory and it still does not boot, try pulling out and reseating the expansion cards (though at BIOS boot time it only cares about finding a video card, and you said that was integrated). If that does not work, then there is the chance the memory you added is bad. This can be confirmed by removing the new 256MB module and seeing if it will boot at that point. You might also want to check the motherboard manual to make sure it can handle 256MB memory modules.

<< we do have a technical support forum FYI >>

he needs help now.... calm down yo..... stupid wannabe mod.... LOL

that normally means there is no signal from the video card to the monitor..check and make sure the video card is plugged in, also...might want to check and see if there are any irq conflicts with the ethernet card.

*sigh* people who don't read previous posts.

What kind of PC is it? Not all memory works in all machines. I would try taking out the new stick and try booting. I have run into this type of thing before, mostly on Intel boards.

um.. we all need help "now"... nobody wants to wait.. but if people used the damn correct forums, then the other ones would move faster...

-edit, and no.. i probably would not want to be a mod.. i mean.. it would be cool and all, but... i dont have that time to do the mod job that i'd wanna do...
