notfred:
I have not insulted you, your mom, or her comprehension. I think its a combination of a poor school and a lack of a background (because of that) in teh Catholic faith. Your mom, and I'm not saying its her fault, clearly has a ver loose understanding of Catholicism. The church you attended may also have done a poor job (out of the 12 Catholic churches I can drive to, 3 actually stick to the faith and bother teaching it).
The Latin Mass was changed into the local languages in 1962 at the Vatican II council. Up to that point, Latin was the language of the Church to preserve the meaning of the words...
Imagine if the Mass had been translated into English in the 1600s. The whole thing would sound like a Shakespearian play: ""Forsooth, then unto the alter doth the trebbled glain of the twibbled hay..."
In 1962 the Church found that modern translation capabilities and information storage allowed us to translate texts and liturgy while maintaining a constant watch on the meaning not getting changed.

And no one in here has said anything conflicting with the title of my thread. Sure, you've called me dumb, and you've called my mom dumb, but no one has insunuated that anything about Catholicism is intelligent. >>
Again - I've never called you or your mom dumb, and I have no intention of doing so. But you have issued a blanket condemnation of the Catholic relgion and as the Catholic faith is extreemly large, I'm not going to be able to address your concerns unless you offer something more specific than "Its dumb".
If you'd like to offer your reasons you feel it is dumb, then perhaps I can try to "insinuate" its intelligence.
Thanks.
