...I've been looking for a job for 2.5 YEARS since grad school, I've been a substitute teacher, teaching assistant, staffer/file clerk, election campaign worker, manager, sales and contracts assistant, customer service rep, scab during the grocery strike, temp auditor/staffer, etc.
(management job eliminated by jobs moved overseas or new technology, my entire department was fired-new software and call center in India, paperwork was digitized, part of the work subcontracted out).

recently i just paid off my entire stafford loan all at once and it left me with $1000 in the bank. well i eat at home, bring lunch to work, pass up a $150 9800pro, going to pass up a $138AR 17-inch LCD, passed up the $800 dell 700m...
and now i have $2500 in the bank. i guess once you see through the commodities you can save a lot of money.
