Please, I need help dealing with a person who maliciously sent me a virus....

I would appreciate anyone who can help do something about a person who intentionally sent me a virus. I'd like to know what U.S. state or local crimes they might have violated and what sort of penalties and fines they could get. Also, I'd like to know how you contact their ISP and what they usually do? I am totally clueless in this area....

Not much you can do about it. Be more careful next time I suppose. The only thing you could do was track down his IP through the header in his email address, and report it to his ISP, but they will most likely either a) do nothing, or b) give him a slap on the wrist.

If you have his e-mail address you could constantly send him junk mail and add different things that make huge file sizes. That way if he has Outlook Express he has to wait till the stupid thing downloads them all. Then send a bunch of messages that say the exact same thing over and over to him. Don't worry about any laws. There aren't any against common people sending viruses to other common people. (Atleast as far as I know)

Well, thanks very much for everyone taking time...I sort of had a hunch his ISP could care less because they want his $, and I figured Law Enforcement doesn't have time for silly things like this that just eat up someones files. I think I might shoot off a few emails...My little brother had a good idea that takes no work on my behalf....He said some kid got him real upset so he signed him up on a bunch of porn sites for daily smutt messages....Then again I told my little brother what if instead of getting him upset that just makes him happier ......Take care gents....Chris

Just send him a dummy text file. I have one that uncompressed is 417 megs but compressed it is 243 kb. If he has a virus scanner it will uncompress it to scan it. A lot of times this will lock the computer.

Probably be best to just see about contacting his ISP, if he has done this more than once, or does it again in the future they will most likely give more than a slap on the wrist.

You guys make me smile....I was pretty upset about this....I mean I have a lot of personal stuff on my PC that is not replaceable (finances, family pictures, ect). Naturally I back it up, but the thought that some punk would try to snake me. Anyhow, I feel better...this has been good therapy to say the least....I am working on notifying his ISP. I don't know if they track this stuff, but I am betting I am not his first victim. I have had a lot of bad luck with punks. One punk sold two Sony 21" Flat Screen monitors on Ebay under my ID and tried to collect the money via a P.O. Box in Canada...Luckily I was able to stop the two buyers before it was to late....
