I need some advice.

I like to play games. My rig is feeling its age and is just barley cutting the mustard. I run ok but i can feel my baby groan each time i install a new and more demanding game. She needs a bit of nip and tuck, but im low on funds at the moment. I will be building a new gaming box at xmas (my present to me ), so i just need a good tune-up till then.

I have about $300 i can spare right now, so any tips would be great.

BurnBarrel :)

p.s. please use small words, im a tad slow

Is this your "Pile of dung" system? Your system actually isn't too bad and should do fine with most games.

A P3-1GHz, GeForce 2 Pro and 512MB of SDRAM is very decent. I suggest you save your money and put it towards your end-of-year build. Since most of the stuff in your system does not have much of an upgrade path, anything that you do will probably entail a rather bigger change.

If you had to spend money now, I suggest looking at replacing your GeForce 2 Pro with a GeForce 4 4200 or something. Even then, I would think twice.

Welcome to the forums, BurnBarrel. Before I read Andy's response the image of a GeForce4 4200 popped into my head as well. Your GHz processor is plenty powerful enough to play anything for the rest of the year, you're just a little light in the graphics department. In fact you could use the special on the PNY 4400 for $229 and have a very nice card well within your budget.
