please help!

the thermal pad on the heat sink I on accident scraped it off a little I didnt Scrap it off all the way to the metal just some scraped off from the top do I need to replace it? will I have any problems?
 
i don't see why you would have problems (if it's a minor scrape of of the pad)...when you put it on the pressure mushes the pad against the cpu anyway so a small scrape out of the thermal pad should get evened out...
 
its more like a smear because when I was moving the HS around it kinda rubbed on the CPU and smeared some of the thermal pad away but not all the way to the metal, anyone else like to say anything please?
 
Allrighty then; you get an A+ for effort!

You are just fine. That is the short answer. The long answer is that you'll see greatly improved cooling by getting rid of that pink chewing gum and using some Arctic Silver II. Regular Arctic Silver is great too, but the AS II is an improved formulation. My CPU temps dropped by 5C at idle and 3C under stress. A noticeable and important improvement.

You will be fine w/the pad until you can get some ASII. Relax...don't do it...when you wanna....(old song, sorry)
 
If in doubt use some thermal paste.
DON'T take chances with a CPU heatsink!
($2 paste, or melt a $200 cpu, your choice)

Radio Shack carries thermal compound for heat sinks.
If you get lucky a local electronics/computer store may have some artic silver, but the Radio Shack paste will work fine.

Personally, i scrape those pads off and use thermal paste instead.
 
I already ordered my artic silver 2 last week it will be here on friday so I guess ill scrape of the thermal pad and put on the artic silver, it will kinda suck because I will have to remove the heat sink again I hate putting it on its hard! but oh well i gotta do what I gotta do, LOL
 
The first couple of times you put on a Socket-A HSF, it IS difficult. By the time your third and later times roll around, it's cake. Just be careful that your screwdriver doesn't slip and you put a hole in your hand...or worse, your mobo! I use a small socket...no way for it top pop off or slip off. Good luck.
