Please help!!

I have really old computer...it's a Dell Dimension XPS P90. It's about 6-7 years old. Never had problems w/ it until now. This computer has 32 megs ram and run under windows 95. The problems is that I cannot use the 4x Creative cdrom drive. I get a error saying that it can't read when I try double click on the cdrom drive letter w/ my cd inside. The last time i turned on this computer was about half year ago and the cdrom was okay back then. I thought it might be that the cdrom is broken so i got a new one, but it still gave me this unable to read error when i try to access my cd. I then thought it was the drivers, but i went into control panel/system/ and found that the drivers for the cdrom and the controller card are both working properly(oh, yeah....this computer uses a cdrom controller card in one of the the black-long slots, the one besides the PCI slot)
what's wrong with my cdrom and how do i fix it???

Thank you!!
