I just installed my new P5Q motherboard (p45 chipset), intel 8400, radeon 4500, and 4gigs of ram.

On boot, the computer gets stuck at the bios loading screen (the screen where it tells me my processor speed and amount of ram as the bios launch).

I have tried with the 4 gigs of mushkin ram i originally ordered and with 4 gigs of ocz, 800 mhz, pc6400, that i just picked up from frys

help please!!!!!

screen where it freezes:

With the Machine off ... Turn the Power Supply off, and hit On Switch... Draining all power.

remove memory down to one stick in Slot nearest CPU....

Turn switch at back of PSU on, and then turn on.... should post, and see hard drives, etc.

update:

if i wait about 5 mins at the first screen, it will continue. i can enter bios or attempt to boot windows.

if i enter bios, bios will load and i can modify them, although the bios screen is EXTREMELY laggy.

if i boot windows, eventually the windows boot screen will come up, and then it blue screens with a "irql_not_less_or_equal" error.

thoughts?

i didn't, but i configured the bios to boot from the disk, so i could try to

when the "hit any key to boot from disk..." message appears, i hit a key, and the system resets

maybe i should try a different mobo?

could it be a power issue (my psu is a 1.5 year old 430 watt antec truepower)?

Swapping in a new mobo without a clean install of Windows is just BEGGING for trouble.

1)Leave the new Mobo in the machine

2) Make sure the Mobo,CPU(make sure you properly installed the heatsink),RAM and video card are properly seated.

3)Clear the CMos-look in the manual it will tell you how to do it.

4)Put the Windows CD in the Cd-ROM

5)Boot up the computer and change the boot sequence to look at the CD-Rom first

6)Save the Bios setting rebooting into Windows setup

7)Format the drive-you will loose ALL your data hopefully you have backups

8)Follow the intallation instructions fairly simple and straight forward.

Set the Bios to boot up in slow mode(check the RAM thouroughly) and see if it locks up checking the RAM. oh did you try MR. Fox's suggestion of using one stick of RAM at a time to see if you have a bad stick which definately be caussing you trouble too.

In your BIOS under the Boot tab you will see something that says "Quick Boot" set to disable and save your new setting.

Under the Power Tab shut Disable the CPU Q-Fan so the fan runs at full speed -CPU could be overheating.

Ok I just checked out this mobo on Asus's website and they have a brand new BIOS fix for CPU temp detection. Bios V0803 are you up to date on your BIOS?

so, in all likelihood, there is some mobo issue.

either my mobo is underpowered (it has an 8 pin/4 pin aux connector, i have the 4 pin plugged in, but i've read that 8 pin is neccessary for stability)
it is incompatible with my ram
or the ram slots are damaged
or something else on it is damaged

so, i'm going to go to fry's and buy this:
http://shop3.frys.com/product/...sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

if this works, i'll just return the asus to newegg
if not, i'll return above mobo to fry's and continue to troubleshoot

any flaw with this plan? (other then losing %15 restock fee from newegg...)

swapping out mobo fixed the problem. don't know if old one was faulty or just incompatible (new one is made by intel, don't remember model number). gonna return the old one to newegg, less 15%, its well worth losing $20 for this experience to be over.

thanks for the help guys
