Can you test this with any other PC's? If every machine has similar issues, then it's most likely a problem you'll have to talk to your ISP about.

cyanide,

perhaps the reaon you aren't getting much of a response is because this is just part of the Internet.

on the consumer/broadband level it isn't meant to provide what you are aksing of it. best bet is to eliminate any consumer network gear (routers, etc) and plug directly into the service. If you are still seeing the same symptoms then call the provider. But my guess is they will just tell you "oh well, can you surf the internet? well, you're working ok"

-edit- if you are the only only one that expereineces this symptom, from the same router/switch, then look at your cabling.

You should pretty much try to confirm how you are connected to your cable modem. Is there a cable running from your computer directly to your 'cable box' on the other side of your house? Or is there another 'box' in between them? If so that is most likely a router/switch either wired or wireless. You should try temporarily eliminating this and connect directly to the cable modem and see if your problem persists.

Ok. Cyan1de. You need to slow down and start reading what people are trying to tell you.

The first step in any problem solving process in life is a process of elimination.

PICK your computer up, take it down to your cable modem, and plug directly into the cable modem.

IF the problem persists, then we have ruled out everything that is now unplugged.

NEXT, get a friend or another persion to take their computer and plug into the cable modem.

That will tell you if it is A. The service from your ISP, or B. Your computer.

how can you "think" its just your computer? did you actually do the test the pular recommended? If you did, they you would KNOW if its your pc or your isp connection.

when you say lag spikes, is your in-game latency jumping into the 100's, or are you just getting low fps? If you are getting latency spikes on your pc ONLY, go through your installed/running programs and processes and begin turning them off. something installed on your pc is most likely causing these spikes. if all else fails and you cant find whats causing your spikes (if it is indeed on your pc...no offense but i dont trust your troubleshooting skills for a second), i would just format. its the universal fix :)

as spidey stated, creating threads with subjects of "HELP ME" and providing relatively no useful information goes a long way toward getting your questions ignored. i guess im only responding because i too play cs:s...recently quit bc of issues with cal and cevo, as well as life.

edit: also, when your in cs:s, go to the console and turn on net_graph 3. it will show your fps, in/out kbs, choke, ect. i would also recommend settings you cmd rates in game. apply the follow commands to your autoexec file located in your cfg folder:

cl_interp 0
cl_interpolate 0
cl_lagcomp_errorcheck 1
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100
cl_rate 20000
cl_smooth 0
rate 25000

If both are doing this, then you can't tweak your settings much. That's like asking what mods to do to your car to get through rush hour traffic faster.

You put one computer directly on the Modem with a commercially made short Cst5e wire.

If it does not work well you should call your ISP.

If they gave you the Modem, it is their responsibility that the output out of the Modem would be adequate.

Make sure that the TCP/IP stack on your computer is optimized, http://www.ezlan.net/Internet_Speed.html
