I have an Athlon xp 1800+ not overclocked
512 meg ram (2 256 meg 2100)
32 meg vid card (nvidia something)
liteon 52x cdrw
generic 6x dvdrw
nic
sound
General stuff

here is my problem. Vid card fan and fan on motherboard, Not the CPU fan, are both not working right. mb fan is spinning infrequently and vid card fan is making weird noises.

here is the issue. When i burn cds with either of my burners, it takes like 2 to 3 times longer or the burn fails. Could this be an overheating problem or a Ram memory problem?

The cpu temp avgs about 100-103 F and mb fan (one not working) avgs around 110 to 118 F

Thanks for any help.

You should definitly have all of your fans running before running your system. How long have you had these parts that arn't working. (under warranty?) It could be your power supply (how many volts is it running at?) Your video card needs the fan to work properly aswell! But I guess if you fry it then you will have a chance to get a new one!

103F is just under 40C - that's not that uncommon or bad.

You didn't mention your motherboard...what are you running?

Yuck,
It's never fun when a mysterious over heat / burning issue comes up. . .

Have you built it back from the ground up, starting with just CPU/HD checking everything, then adding back in the CDBurner then the DVD burner. . .? Do you have another p/s to swap in. Do you have any other symptoms except the bad burns?

good luck,
your friend,

Those temps dont seem bad. Fans are (sometimes) pretty easy to replace or fix, do a search on fan repair and check it out.

Go into the Device manager and see if the IDE channels are set to a DAM mode, and not in a PIO mode. That will slow down your burns.
