Right, the problem I have with my computer is perhaps the most confusing one I have ever encountered. I'm hoping that someone among you may be able to give a final, diagnosis.

Here is a list of my computer's components. Please help!

CPU: 1.8 GHZ-AMD
Motherboard: K7VZM Micro ATX
Video Card: ATI 9600 Radeon (occasionally ATI 7500 Radeon to solve problem)
Memory Card(s): 256 Micron Memory and 512 Micron Memory
Hard Drives: 2
PSU: 350 Volts, later 430 Volts
OS: XP (previously ME)

My problem has gradually worsened. It started out with the following symptoms during some of my games, and occasionally using a normal word document: freeze ups, logging out on its own, and the occasional rebooting on of the computer its own. It had existed before I upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP, but the problem still got more frequent as time went on. I attempted scanning and defragging my hard drives and this solved nothing. A friend of mine suggested removing one of my two memory cards since they were different sizes. This did not help either. I did notice, however, that I had allowed my computer to be filled with dust. In addition to clearing out as much dust as possible, I replace my video card with one I had used earlier. Temporarily solved my problem, however another friend suggested that it might not have been the video card, but rather the PSU. I began searching for a new PSU (the 430 Volts unit), and during the course of that time my computer completely crashed. When I would try and start it up, it would load Windows but never get to accessing it, and boot up sequence was extremely slow. I tried replacing the video card again and nothing changed. I purchased the 430 Volts unit and installed, but there was no change either. After that, I considered that my C Drive was damaged and tried to repair XP with the CD, but it wouldn't come up.

My conclusion is that the problem must be either the CPU or the Motherboard. I am leaning toward CPU, since I had already replaced the Motherboard when the previous one crashed the computer due to a burst capacitor. Please, if you have any idea as to which part is causing my computer to be ill, post away.

Oh, and I thoroughly scanned my Hard Drives and Memory Cards. No problems indicated.

Oops, forgot to mention that I ran MemTest 86 on my memory cards. Plus I booted Windows XP from a CD, so it's extremely unlike that it's the Hard Drives.

well, do as I ask, if you want good help, if you rather not, then the best of luck.

I'll need to know the results of the memtest86+ test from UBCD as well as the HDD manufacturer diag as well.

Well, the C Drive (which is partitioned into C and D) is a Maxtor, 20 GB. The other, my E Drive, is a Seagate, 120 GB.

Unfortunately, I did not write down the MemTest86 results, but I remember that they did not detect any errors. Still, I'll see if I can try doing the MemTest again tomorrow, if the computer will let me get that far.

Thanks.

a good 6 hours of memtest86+ will be good.

also, need to see exactly where your swap file is kept and exact size of the partitions and free space.

Sorry I was gone, I've been quite busy.

Unfortunately, I can only tell you the partition size and swap file location. The swap file is in the D Drive. C Drive is 2 GBs, and the rest is in D Drive. I don't know if I didn't convey this right, but I can't get back into Windows, nor can I boot it up from my CD Drive. It's unlikely that I'll be able to do a memtest given how I wasn't able to use the Windows XP installation disk, but if I get the chance I'll try.
