I'm currently at a day care center and i'm trying to help them w/a slight problem they had (started yesterday)
they have 3 pc's all conn to a router (linksys, not wireless)
heres the problem.. There is Computer A, B, and C (for example)

Computer A can ping all the computers fine
Computer B can ping only C
Computer C can ping only B

wierd thing is, even on this machine (A) if i ping myself (not locally) like 192.168.1.100, it times out.. i don't get it..
anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening..
any help would be greatly appreciated.. thx

How are the computers getting IP addresses? Is there a DHCP server somewhere on the network?

What OS???

Are they all getting valid addresses? ie 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101 etc?

Do you have a shared Internet connection? Can they all get on the net?

So, B and C can communicate back and forth only? A can talk to both the others?

Is there some type of firewall on Comp A that is causing pings not to be replied to?

Edit: Is the only problem that you can't ping the other PC's? Or is this a symptom of another problem that you are having?

Does XP firewall stop pings at all?

Someone might have enabled it?

Dunno it was just a thought......

That is what i would think it would be then if there is no 3rd party firewall...

Is there an update that auto enables it?

well, i can go ahead and check the whole firewall thing, ..
the main problem is that no computers could see Computer A.. and they map a bunch of folders to A and use a lot off of that.. so it's a pretty big problem.. =/ ..
and yes they can all get on the net fine and have good ip's (192.168.1.100-103)
