Ok here's the deal. I get my computer, notice it's running at around 50 degrees celcius under heavy load, order arctic silver 3 and a slk-800u to upgrade from my stock heatsink. So it comes in, I'm kinda in a rush, leaving for college in 2 days and all, so I attempt to do it myself just using the online guide thing (Im a total beginner at the inside of a computer). So as I am taking out my motherboard Im just kinda taking off all the plugs without a care, because I think I can remember. Then I take out my motherboard and take off the old heatsink and fan. I then screw the x-brace on the back, put some arctic silver on the heatsink and chip, and put those together with the fan on it. I then put the motherboard back into the case, but remember I didn't put in the temp. monitor between HS and processor, so I undo the sink and fan, put it in, and redo them.
So now, I have to plug everything back in. Most of the stuff I know, but there are a couple of things I don't remember where they go (mostly those fan controller wires). Anyways, I plug back in everything, try to turn it on, nothing. So I go to my mobo manual (Abit nf7-s 2.0) and read the order in the bottom right where the power/reset/led/speaker plugs are supposed to go. So then I plug it all back in, press the power button, it turns on, but then just sits with a blank screen and does 2 high beeps, 2 low beeps, 2 high beeps, etc. While this is happening I am watching the CPU temp, and it is climbing pretty rapidly from 28ish to 40, at 40, I panic and press the power button again and eventually it shuts down.
So my question is: Did I just screw something up irrepairably or did I just miss a plug? And whats up with my temperature doing that, any suggestions on how I might have installed wrong?
Please help, I really want to get this fixed before college.
Thanks,
Gigem
