Ok im going to do some remodeling to my room which is going to take a couple of weeks. there are 2 phone lines in the house the upstairs has the dsl the downstairs doesnt. Its too far to run the phone line from the dsl modem to down stairs where im moving the computer to. I was looking at wireless networks but it seems you have too have at least 2 computers 1 will be a host/server. i only have one computer so what do i need to do to get on the internet with the line upstairs and the computer downstairs? i thought i could just have the modem and router up stairs and the computer with a wireless pci card to access

ps im a newbie

right, you need 2 computers if you wanted to skip the need of a router, escentialy turning one computer into the router. However if you buy a router, it will obtain and manage IP and connection distrobution on its own, and you can connect to it soley via wireless...

HOWEVER.. it is generaly best to set the router up via WIRED connection as you can easily find yourself cut off from wireless (ie while setting up the wireless encryption, maybe you typo the encryption key) while setting up the router.
