Please help with STOP Error and BSOD!! (WinXP)

Hey guys my computer just started having these random reboots. This system has been up and stable for about 3 months and have not had any problems at all. I disabled the reboot feature and have collected info such as STOP: 0X0000008E, 0xC0000005, 0x8060AB13, 0xAD09BB74, 0x00000000. I have read many places that this error (the 8E one) 9 times out of 10 refers to a memory error. I tested one stick and it turned out faulty with the MS and memtest module tester so I thought I cured the problem. The problem has persisted eventhough I am only using one stick of my ram and it has run multiple passes (~4 hrs. in the MS and memtest) and has not given a single error. My system specs are below so please lmk if you have any ideas/suggestions for me. Thanks and take care



System specs:


- Athlon XP 2500+ (barton) (not overclocked)

- Asus A7N8X deluxe motherboard

- 512mb TwinMos PC3700 memory

- 80GB WD Special Edition Hard Drive

- 200GB WD Special Edition Hard Drive

- 16X DVD ROM Drive

- 52x cdrw Drive

- 3 case fans (2 80mm, 1 quiet 120mm)

- Windows XP Pro with sp1 and all other critical updates

Forgot to mention that 5V, 12V, and other rails are all with =/- .05 from being right on the stated value. Ex. 5V line runs at 4.95 and 12V line runs at 11.97. Also , wanted to mention that I have changed ram slots from 1 to 2 to 3 and changing this has done nothing for the problem. The BSOD's are even occuring now when I search the registry

I would suggest testing with new memory. Any clues given in the event viewer?

do you have the ram and cpu running at sync'd fsb?

have you tried starting back from scratch..clean hd ,set bios back to factory settings,install one known good memory chip,video card and hd to see if it'll boot then install remander of the items one at a time rebooting after each then install the os run a few tests and see if it'll happen again...almost sounds like a power issue or memory issue

I will test later with some other memory. The memory and cpu are running at the sync'ed fsb (166mhz). If it some down to it I will try a clean setup but I wanted to eliminate some possibilities before I resorted to that. Thanks for the help




BTW: I have also run Spybot and Norton Antivirus and nothing was found on the computer
