Please help with IDE CD-RW drive not writing

My IDE CD-RW drive isn't recognized by Windows for packet writing. In other words I can't select files and get the option to 'write to CD'. This started in January when I upgraded my motherboard to an ASUS P5 Deluxe. Prior to that I could write to the CD with XP's packet writing or with Direct CD.
After I installed the new motherboard I would get 'drive not accessable' errors when trying to copy files. I upgraded DirectCD - no go. I then uninstalled DirectCD - no go. I can use CD-burning programs to burn music CDs okay.

I figured maybe my CD-RW was too old (it was an old Plexwriter), so I installed a new Memorex CD-RW today and still can't get Windows XP to copy files to the CD.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the JMicron controller or maybe a bios setting.

If anyone can help I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks,
Yazuli

Don't have too many ideas for you to try. Only couple I can think of is changing the jumpers on the drive from cable select to master (and making sure any other device on the same IDE channel is set to slave). And then try forcing it to slave if being master did not help....

You need to install the UDF (i think) software to enable packet writing to cd.

Beware though, it really slows down everything if you use Win explorer alot.
