please help with hard drive issue

o.k. so I get my new notebook hardrive for my i-opener and I try to put it in my compaq deskpro.
I have a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter and the hard drive works (that is boots up to missing operating system) when I set it as master and remove my other hard drive. The probelm is that when I did this it changed the bios hard drive settings (please keep in mind that this is the sh#ty compaq bios). Now when I remove the notebook harddrive and try to boot with the original hard drive the computer starts and nothing happens but a hardware sound. At this point both leds in front are glowing. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help. I am hoping this is a simple problem so I can start on the i-opener.

does the mb make any beeps at all? I would start to double check that you didn't knock something loose acedently (ie power connection for mb). also make sure you changed all your settings back to the way they were before.

thanks for your reply. i figured it out five minutes ago. i was putting the ide cable in the hard drive the wrong way. i thought that the notch on the cable prevented this from happening but the plastic on the hard drive was "bowing" out to let the cable slip in. a simple hardware mistake that cost my a day of computing.
