Please help with Hard Disk problem

I used to have two hard drives:
Drive 1 (IBM 13 gig)
Drive 2 (WD 5 gig)

Now I used to have it setup where Drive 1 had win2k and Drive 2 has win98, both using fat32. And I would manually set both to master and switch cables since i rarely used 98. Anyways, I decided I wanted to get rid of 98 and use the Drive 2 for backup purposes. So I fdisked it and its mbr, and formatted it and set it to slave. Connected them both, booted up, and got some kind of Disk I/O Error (This is while win2k was booting up).

Anyways I checked both drives and each one works fine by itself but is having problems working together, however they did work together for many months, then I split them up, and they wont work together now. So the latest thing I tried was low levelling Drive 2, and resetting the cmos, and making sure the drive2 was slave, and drive 1 was master, but when I boot up, I get the same Disk IO Error. Any help appreciated.

Hmm...did you try a different hard drive cable? I have had trouble getting hard drives workign in the past because the cable was toast.

Also, did you try switching them around master-slave & slave to master. I have seen that work in the past.

Do you even have them on the same IDE cable? Try putting one drive with a cdrom, andt he other one alone.

Hope that helps.
