Please help with converting text??

Hi folks,

I got an email from a friend but unfortunately when I try to open it says I need a newer version of word. I downloaded a file converter and now the text looks like this:

Is the file in the e-mail attachment has .docx extension?

Yes, exactly

save the attachment to your desktop, then open it with Word to see if that helps. Other than that, I think that the file is corrupted, and that person need to send you the file again. Tell that person to save the file in Word 97-2003 Document (click on the circular office icon on the upper left hand corner -> then hover over to Save As -> then click on Word 97-2003 Document).
