my cable modem is connceted to the uplink of my hub

my 2 other computers are connected to the same hub
since my cablec company gave me 2 ips, i dont need any configuration for both of them to get online

the problem is how do I actually network these 2 computers? do i assign the 255.255.255.0 thing to my network card?
i dont want to setup a gateway , since my cable company already gave me 2 unique ips
1 is using xp, the other 98se

Did you put both comps on the same workgroup?
I don't think you need to assign a gateway... just the ip's for both machine.

The cable modem may not be setup properly as a gateway. The would either tell you to use dhcp or give you all the ip info to plug in for two machines...
