I just installed a new ASUS CUBX mb with a P800e, loaded windows SE successfully and then tried to reinstall my diamond MX 300 soundcard. After installing drivers and following the prompt to reboot the computer to finish installation, I keep getting the same prompt to reboot my computer. If I then reboot, the same prompt comes up again. If I click no, the computer boots to windows but the cdroms are not detected. I have an aureal 2500 on my second computer so I tried that card out with the latest aureal drivers and came up with the same problem. A complete reinstall of windows did not help. Is this a hardware or software problem. I am thinking this may be a problem with the CUBX cause I had the same setup with a soyoba+IV and MX300 and had no issues at all. Please help.

My setup is as follows:

ASUS CUBX
P800e
256 pc133 ram (128 mushkin enhanced and 128 mosel)
Promise Fastrak 66
2 IBM 13 gig HD's
Kenwood 52x
Acer cdr
MX 300

Thanks for any help.

More information...

Did some searching in device manager and both cd's are disabled. When you look at properties is says that the device is not working properly because a device it depends on, secondary IDE controller (dual fifo), has been dynamically disabled.

Under the heading Hard Disk Controllers, both the primary and secondary IDE controllers have ! in front of them and under properties is the following message.

This device cannot work properly until you reboot your computer
(code 14).

It let's me restart the computer from here after which windows reboots and both cdroms are recognized. However, if I then close windows and reboot, I get the same restart your computer prompt, exactly back where I started.

Can anyone tell my why the IDE controllers are not loading properly when I boot up? This is extremely frustrating!!!

Maybee the Promise controller card is causing havoc. Try removing it and see what happens.

Maybee a clean install of WIN 98SE is in order.

I read where many folks have problems with latest Aureal drivers. I use Version 2035 on my SuperQuad. They work perfect for me. I don't see any reason to change until I have a problem.

Why don't you try an older Aureal driver?
