So just the other day I was using my computer but abruptly what happened was the right half of my keyboard started to become buggy. Everytime I would type a letter, it would give me some other random letter or a number. Being the dumb person that I was, I reset my computer remembering too late into the moment that I would have trouble logining if the problem still persisted.

The reboot did not fix the problem and whenever I type my password in, Vista doesn't accept it. It is not my physical keyboard's fault but rather an issue with some sort of virus/bug messing with Vista. In MS DOS, the keyboard lettering is fine. Its just when Windows Vista starts the problem occurs.

Things I have tried:

Trying the "Forgot my password" link on Vista Login - requires a CD that I did not make.

Inserting Windows Vista DVD to reinstall Vista to no avail. The computer does not prompt me to press a key to go into the setup menu for Vista via the DVD drive. My BIOS isnt the original manufacturer one anymore since I did a small mod to get my Vista upgrade to work properly.

Please, if anyone could be of a help please let me know. Thank you

I suspect it has nothing to do with a virus. This sounds like a messed up keyboard or keyboard driver. A virus would not take out 'half' of the keyboard. Try a different keyboard. Even better if you have a PS/2 keyboard, try a USB one or vice versa.

Yup, tried safe mode and still had the keyboard problem. I don't think there is an issue with the keyboard physically because everything types fine in MS DOS.

I am running a laptop, and am in the process of getting an external keyboard to use with this.

Thank you, your input is much appreciated. If anyone has more input, I would be very grateful for it.

Just because it works in DOS does not mean it is not the keyboard. Try the external. It sounds like a keyboard or keyboard driver problem.

You might also try the handicap options (or somthing like that) on the login screen which I believe includes a GUI-based keyboard so you can use just the mouse to enter your password.
