The directions state to remove the plastic film from the bottom of the heatsink. The thing is that I don't think there is any plastic film. When I went to "peel" it felt like a play-dough type substance (pink). Can somebody confirm that this is what I'm supposed to have there, and that it isn't some funky "film". I'm about to apply the arctic silver.
I'm almost 100% sure, but since this is the first system I'm building I'm a bit worried.
BTW, it was a "retail" athlon xp 1600 from Newegg.
Thanks for a speedy response!!

Its basically a sticker kind of a plastic. Normally the vendor will take it off for u...in fact most vendor did...just in case consumer is too eager to install their PC & forgot to peel it off.

U should be fine. Tht pink colour thing is a termal pad.

If u wan to use ASII, scrap off tht termal pad completely using a sharp razor & remove the remaining residue using achohol. I use nail polish remover...works fine.

Read the application instruction on ASII w/sites.

I ran into the same situation and sent an email to AMD. I received their reply today. Here it is:

Thank you for contacting AMD.
Do not remove the thermal pad. The instructions sheet were wrong and they have been corrected. The only thing you need to do is just remove the plastic cover.

I hope that helps - that's what I plan to do.

I ran into the EXACT same problem....first build....bought retail from Newegg, etc. Mine did not have the plastic tab on it, just the pink square compound. I installed as it was and have had no problems thus far!
