So i was building my new comp, (after a vid card problem), and i was installing my audigy software, but i forgot to enable the card in my bios, so the comp froze and when i restarted it a win XP file had become corrupt and XP cannot load. On top of that my mobo, epox 8k7a, is having startup issues, when it boots it freezes during the memory test, ide detect sequence, or during the bios screen.

Can anyone help me? also how can i load dos to fix the xp corrupt file problem?

Is there any quick way to get the HD erased manually, manually as in comp off?

you can boot from cd and try reinstalling XP. Has for your machine looking up it may be bad memory. have tried any other sticks of memory or even removing a stick or two.

Actually, XP has a "recovery utility" when booting from the CD. I had a whacked installation and sure enough, this feature resolved my issue in about 30 minutes - much less time than having to reinstall XP and all my applications.

If it won't boot from the CD, have you ensured that your PC is set up to "boot from CD"? You have to go into your BIOS and set the CD reader as the boot device, not your "C:" drive and not your floppy drive.

Can't you just disconnect everything from the mb .......... (eide cables, floppy, sound etc) ....... except one stick of ram, the video card and the ps, ............... then just post the mb and enter into bios, make sure your settings are correct then:

Re-plug floppy, cd-rom, hdd and add all components (one at a time if necessary) ............?

good call clumsum, pull it down the extreme basics to just get it to turn on and get the BIOS so you can track down the piece that is messing things up.

I'm sure most of us would agree, that is likely not the problem.. you have something defunct there...

munkey,

Are you not even getting a post screen?

If so then try re-seating the pci video card (or another one in the AGP slot) and then try the one memory stick in a different dimm slot ...........

What is the code 7F?

If all else fails, un-plug the psu cable and short the cmos jumper as thedarkwolf suggested.

If that still won't get it then, pull the cmos battery and try another one.......... re-check all jumpers and pins.
