Hi all,

I did a search on this forum, but was unable to come up with any fixes.

I have an ATI Rage Fury Pro hooked up to an Sony CPD-G400, and at 1024x768@85hz, I get a really bad shimmering effect. I'm removed speakers and anything else that may cause interference, so I'm stumped.

I've heard problems with ATI cards and Trinitron monitors. Am I stuck? Should I return?

Thanks,
blues

can you double check with monitor's OSD that you are doing 85Hz?

try to adjust the refresh rate to 75Hz, will it make a difference?

Set the refresh to optimal. What do you mean by Shimmering? Do you mean flickering?

Yes, it is at 85Hz, and by shimmering, I mean it's flickering really badly. :(

is it just kind of blurry?
check the actually refresh rate according to the monitor.
Try it at the tried and true 75 or some such, if that doesn't work, try it on a different machine (laptop would come in handy right about now)
If none of this helps sounds like the monitor could be going bad (as was the case with my roomie - every thing is blury as hell on his crt)

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 950p, that 95% of the time looks great... but depending on what other electronic devices I have turned on/off in my apartment it does the shimmering thing. Don't know if that will help, but at least your not alone!

Got it when electric room heater was running on the same circuit as the monitor.

If you haven't already, try setting the monitor at 640x480 with the "optimal" refresh setting. Does the moitor still flicker? If so, there is something wrong.

Did you install the sony drivers for the monitor? Are you ATI drivers uptodate?

Shimmering has a different meaning when it comes to ATi vid cards and trini monitors...shimmering refers to the slight "shaking" of text and some graphics...to fix it with my radeon, I use Raid-on Tweaker 3.1...just click Special Settings, then select "Fix Shimmering (requires reboot)."

Thanks for your help Angst.

I posted a message there. I'm going to try another video card, and see if that'll help.

Hmmm..which Voodoo card should I get?
