My company division wants me to look into setting up an email system for about 75 employees. Our mail is currently being handled by a related company, but they are overloaded by the other corp divisions & can't handle the volume.

How expensive [money won't be a problem] and/or difficult is this to do?
I've handled other tech issues, but haven't dealt with this before. The system would need to be accessible by both onsite & offsite users.

Any help, information or expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly you would get better answers/solutions if you went to the newsgroups dedicated to the product your interested in...

microsoft.public.exchange.*** (admin, misc, setup)
or
microsoft.public.exchange2000.*** (admin, general)

Those newsgroups are full of volunteers that should have all the info your likely to need to get started.
If you would rather use a *nix email system, then use the newsgroup dedicated to them...

Good Luck

BTW: this is the hardware section, try to stay on hardware topics in here.

OMG why would he want to setup a Exchange server for 75 users. Setting up email (POP3 is likely the easiest but not the only option) on a small Linux or Unix box for 75 users is really inexpensive and easy.

No kidding.

Boss: preCRT, we need email.

preCRT: I found exchange it costs $5000 and does a lot of stuff we don't need.

Boss: Are you stupid?

preCRT, consider exchange if you need the OTHER functionality of exchange, if all you need is email grab one of those old computers you undoubtably have around and put a secure linux install on it. Viola, email.

I didn't assume and did read (thanks for coming out though). His posted asked for suggestions, your post reads as if you're suggesting Exchange (since he doesn't know what product he's interested in). Which is completely overblown given his requirements. (If he knew which product he was interested in then he would have been more specific).

And I quote:
"newsgroups dedicated to the product your interested in... microsoft.public.exchange.*** (admin, misc, setup) or microsoft.public.exchange2000.*** (admin, general)"

Ya that's what happens when people have been around a year longer then you. Yawn!
