does the 645 ultra support ram voltage changes? i am going to order a motherboard and a 1.6a northwood next week, and ram voltage changes are important since my ram needs a bit extra to run at aggressive settings. i know that the board has weak cpu volt settings (i'm going to do the pin wire trick, so that doesn't really matter), but i haven't been able to find whether the ram voltage has settings or not on this board.

thanks!

I am sorry EdipisReks, I own a MSI 645 Ultra and it does not have a vmem adjustment. If you don't have good ram, you might want to go with the Gigabyte 8SRX or the ASUS P4S333 which has those adjustment to boost your ram. And to remind you that the MSI 645 has malfunctioning temp sensor (I think it's a design flaw) and random restart problems (happened to me), so you might want to think twice.

that's too bad, because it is SOO cheap. i'm heard that the gigabyte board also has problems. i might just have to spend the money on the asus, i guess.

Mine has just started to do the random restarts just
yesterday(I have had it for about 1 month) and has
done it 3 times since then. This really sux, has anyone
have a cure for this by chance? I have resorted to running
this rig at the most modest settings to see if it helps.

Jayczar and pepsimanz:
Are you both overclocking your cpu's? I'm just curious if the random restart problem happens when run at stock speeds or not. I have a friend who just ordered this board but doesn't plan any overclocking (never has before). Thanks for any insight.

Sometimes (often) you get what you pay for.

MSI's boards are cheap, and you get just that. The P4 DDR boards they manufacture all suffer from voltage regulation issues, and that is just the beginning.

Stick to ASUS. P4B266(-C) and P4S333 are the best out there right now.

I've been running the MSI 645 Ultra for about two months now, my P4 1.6a is at 2.133 by an fsb of 133 (533) and I have never had such a stable motherboard. Using samsung memory (chips and stick) of DDR333 running at just that... got the cpu voltage at .55 (one odditity, the onboard sensors always show the voltage as actually running one setting lower than what is ever actually set to). Anyways, I would recommend this board to anyone... most fun I've had in a while with new parts, certainly better than the K7S5A was to me...

Use the "Load Bios defalts option" save and exit. this usually solves the reboot issues among other things. You can then begin to tweak your bios to desired settings (if your reboot issues have gone away). MSI has a forum that is great help for issue with their boards.MSI Forum
