Please help...putting on heatsink on my athlon 1800

Im installing my new athlon 1800. I have never installed a heatsink. I placed the chip on the motherboard and locked it down. I tried to read the instructions on placing the heatsink. It says don't apply direct pressure on the chip. Well i put the heatsink down and held the clips at an angle so one side is locked into the clips. Now how exactly do i swing the other side of metal clips into the locks without putting pressure on the chip?

I'm using a athlon 1800+xp and a ecs k7s5a pro

The clip that looks like a screwdriver will fit into it? I just did it that way...put a screwdriver in it, and push down.

if you put the heatsink on backwards you could blow your chip up.

Instructions don't get much better than these. You do put pressure on the chip, it's just important for it to be even. Take Budman's advice. Depending on the design of the heatsink, you may be able to get it on correctly but the clip may be on backwards. This is NOT what it should look like. The "screwdriver end" of the clip should be on the opposite side of the socket "step."

I hope that you also put a (very thin) layer of thermal paste on the cpu core, unless the heatsink you are using has a thermal pad on it.
You can't install it without putting pressure on the cpu. You just need to be careful and bring the heatsink down gently and then use a screwdriver to push the latch down.

I must say that AMD heatsinks have gotten much easier to install. I remember before those screwdriver things. I remember the trouble I had w/ my first few heat sinks....way back in the day...i love it now how my Alpha just screws into those holes in the board...
