Specs
Iwill kk266 mobo (on board sound disabled)
Duron 850
SBLive (not 5.1)
Win 2k Pro

Filename is "SBLiveXPDrvUpdate.exe " .
Description: This is a stand-alone driver update for the Sound Blaster Live! for users running Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

So i know it's the right file but it just locks the pc. It goes through almost all of the install (as far as I can tell). It goes through the percentage installed graph and then goes back to the desktop. Mouse freezes, cannot ctrl-alt-del, no hard drive activity, etc.
I had to manually reset the pc. When the pc starts rebooting it doesn't run scandisk.
It comes up and everything is fine. However the driver details for the sound card still list Microsoft 1999, etc. So it's definately not installing the new ones. None of the Liveware or whatever it's called has been installed.
BTW BIOS was just updated to the newest version so it shouldn't be related to the lock-up.

Any ideas?

What's the name of the driver file? You downloaded this from Creative, right?

What versions of the 4-in-1's are you running? (This should not affect driver install.)

He said it was SBLiveXPDrvUpdate.exe and that's the name of the file. Maybe you can try installing SP2 and then the update.

Heh...there it was right in front of me(too much beer I guess...) ;)

John makes a good point. SP2 addressed a lot of issues and the Install Wizard might might be one of them.

You have a bus mastering conflict. Remove the other PCI cards to diagnose the source of the conflict.

No 4-in-1's. I have never installed them on any system before and everything has worked great. Guess I could try???

The original install of win2k has SP2 slipstreamed into it.

<< Remove the other PCI cards to diagnose the source of the conflict. >>

The only other PCI card is the network card. You think it would be OK to remove it, install Creative's driver, then just put it back in? Or would it matter if I tried the soundcard in another PCI slot first? I figured it wouldn't be cause it worked fine w/Msoft's win2k drivers from the beginning.

ANy other advice before I start troubleshooting?

Most likely its the NIC or the ASPI service on the motherboard. Either one can conflict with bus mastering sound cards like the Live!-family.

The file you downloaded is an update. It only updates the drivers that WinXP installs for the SBLive. For Win2k, you need to install the full version Win2k drivers for the SBLive, and then install the SbLiveXPDrvUpdate file.

OK, I found what I thought were the full drivers for win2k. It just locked up the pc as befpre (except this time it did it right after I clicked on the setup file). Then upon rebooting, I get a cannot find pfmodnt.sys" error.
Well, I found a work around to not get the error but I'm still unsure as to what's going one here.
Anyone have the original drivers for win2k?

Still haven't tried to take out the NIC, just thought I'd try some of the other ideas first.
