I have successfully connected an old Aiwa NSX-999 stereo system to my Sony Bravia HDTV and have greatly improved its crappy, tinny sound. My Aiwa has some more speakers that I need help connecting. They are small rear surround sound speakers and we used them back in 1995 when we were using thus Aiwa as a stereo system only, so I know they work good for sound. I, however, did a stupid thing and cut the connector ends off the speaker wire to use the speaker wire for something else. I now want to connect these rear speakers back to the Aiwa to add to the already working side speakers. I just don't know what kind of speaker wire to buy with the right kind of connector to plug into the back of the Aiwa's rear speaker ports. Can anyone tell me what to buy?

Question: what cable did you use to connect your tv to your Aiwa system? chances are you won't actually be getting proper surround out of the Aiwa system even if you connect the additional speakers.

I used the red/white audio cable and the audio/video input on the Aiwa. The speakers are connected to the speaker/wire connections on the Aiwa and that still leaves speaker plugs open on the Aiwa. Back when it functioned as a stereo system only (way back in 1995) these plugs were where the right and left rear speakers were plugged in. My confusion is that one end of the speaker wire is split for red/black connection to the speaker and the other end is supposed to go into one plug (each rear speaker is this way) and I don't know what to buy to replace this type wire. Course I was just assuming this audio auxiliary connection will allow for rear speaker sound as it did for stereo system only.

Ironic - sent email to you with pic of connector that did connect rear speaker to stereo originally. Wish now I had not cut it off but I needed speaker wire for something and this old stereo system was just sitting in a closet. Who knew that in 2013 I would find a use for it.

Oh and I know I will not get true surround sound out of these rear speakers but I just want some type of rear sound. But you have no idea how good the sound is on the 2 side speakers that I currently have hooked up and working on my Sony Bravia HDTV. TV by itself had blary tinny sound on some movies especially non HD ones.

Got it, TG. Stand by for upload.

Looks like a standard RCA connector to me, FWIW.

Thank you so much for your help Ironic. If standard RCA connectors are the red, white and yellow connectors, mine has a longer prong (single) on the end. Keep in mind too, that mine has both speaker wires connected to it per speaker.

One more thing to know - I just checked again on the back of the Aiwa unit and there is 1 red and 1 white port (hole) with surround speakers labeled above these ports. The right rear speaker was plugged into 1 and the left rear speaker was plugged into the other. The connectors that were plugged into those red and white "holes" are black. (Back when this was all just working as a stereo system). And again, the speakers that are currently working with my TV are connected to red and white "holes" labeled Aud/Video on the Aiwa. I sure hope when I get the connector replacement figured out, I don't blow everything up when I try connecting.

I have one of these Aiwa NSX stereos and will confirm they are just RCA connectors.
