Got a new system all ready to go (E6600 Core 2 Duo, Asus P5W-DH Deluxe and 2GB OCZ DDR2) and just realized the video card does not have the required 6-pin power adapter.

Do any chain electronics stores carry these things?

If your psu is old enough not to provide 6pin pci-e power plugs, you probabaly shouldn't not use it with any reasonably high end pci-e video card.

what do you mean the video card doesnt have the power plug? Do you mean the PSU? If the videocard doesn't have the power plug, it doesn't need it.

It should have come with the card. If your PSU doesn't have one then you can use the dual molex thing.

So your saying the card has the plug for it, just didn't come with the dual molex to 6pin PCIe adapter???
With a computer like that maby it's time for a PSU upgrade (if yours doesn't have one)

It didn't come with the card. I couldn't find one locally, and since my PSU is outdated (although it was the best of the best at the time...PC Power & Cooling), I just went and picked up an Antec 480 TruPower PSU and an Antec 500 SmartPower PSU.

Couldn't decide in the store. SmartPower was $89 and TruPower was $120. Any suggestions which is better???

The only consideration between those would be the cooling paths - TruPower uses a larger fan on the "bottom", while SP has two smaller fans in a "passthru" configuration. Mounting PSU on top right above CPU? - TP. On the bottom or in a dedicated cooling duct? - SP. If neither a consideration, then go for the cheapest. :)

Other than that - either should be fine - unless you're planning on going Crossfire.

Do you mind to send me one. I order the same video card (shipped out today) and just realized the same thing. I have a Antec TP 430W. I think it should be fine to feed X1900 XT.

I use the smartpower 2.0 and it works fine, save the 30 bucks.

Strangely enough, I received one of those things with the PCI-e X800XL I bought last week. This particular card doesn't even need it. :D

Actually, BB ATI brands do not ship with one. I guess its their way of making sure your PSU is good enough. I think thats a bad move, but whatever.

Look by your name -- there's only 2 symbols. The "lock" symbol is to send a private message. You need to enable PM's in order to receive them.

i was ticked that my BBA card didn't come with one. and i have the first revision of the seasonic S12-430. the new revision has the PCIe power connector. and more SATA connectors (3 drives and i'm already using an adapter :disgust: ). i very much thought about moving up to the second revision when it came out a few months back, but getting the power supply in and out of the P180 is such a pain in the ass.

luckily i can pick up all the adapters i need locally.
