Please help--Microsoft or Logitech Wheel Mouse Optical???

I just came back from the store with the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical (the standard 2 button mouse for $29.99) but now feel that the wheel is a bit too loose and wobbly. After searching through these boards, I see that a lot of people seem to like the Logitech wheel mouse optical (the one that is about $30, like the Microsoft model).

Is it worth returning the Microsoft mouse for the Logitech version? I know there are better and more expensive versions out there, but I just needed a decent optical mouse. Anything is better than the the track pad on my old laptop computer.

I think it's worth it to get a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse.

I have one myself and it is very solidly built and very comfortable.

Thanks John. The Intellimouse Explorer would be my first choice but I just wanted to get something a bit cheaper and more basic. It's not like I can play any games on my old Pentium 233 MMX laptop. Pitiful, I know. I'm just wondering whether the Logitech basic optical wheel mouse is preferable to the Microsoft basic optical wheel mouse.

Yeah, that seems to be what I'm reading Rhinox. I think I'll have to go back to OD and exchange the MS optical wheel mouse for the Logitech. If only I checked these boards before going to the store.

I'd recommend you to get the Logitech Wheel Mouse Optical or if you can afford it, get the Intellimouse Explorer.

For the price your paying, I'd recommend you to return the mouse, and get your money back. And then goto this guy, and buy your mouse from him. He has good references at Heatware. Just a suggestion of course.

I would go buy a mouse from the crazy eddie guy but I bought the MS wheel mouse from OD using the $20 coupon that was posted on the Hot Deals board (it ended up costing about $10). That means that I can exchange the MS mouse for the Logitech one at no further cost. I figure $10 for an optical mouse is not too bad, at least until I finally upgrade this super slow brick of a laptop so that I can play some quality games.

i got the logitech wheel mouse optical and i think it's pretty good. i know a lot of people had problems with the ms one

Logtech has good drivers, you can attach and configure multiple mice/trackballs, whatever and configure them separately. Build quality is also very good, i had a ms explorer optical.. thing felt cheap and buttons were poorly placed.. ick. Very happy with my blue 4 button logitech optical. Its got a kewl blue tail light too

***Don't forget that the following statements are my opinion except for facts used for improving my case towards which product is better in my mind.***

I have owned both mice and have found the Logitech to be superior both ergonomically, and durability wise. I go to a lot of LAN parties, and I have to say, Intellimouse Explorer's don't have their wire well seated enough. I have found this to be prevailant with all microsoft optical mice. The Logitech's buttons have a more tactile feel than the MS's. The MS is nice, but unfortunately I feel that it was built cheaply, very cheaply. Just use both for a little while and you'll see what I mean, it is just really cheap. Plus the Logitech has rubber grip on the sides and the thumb-button is in the right spot! The MS's have 2 thumb buttons, but only one is really ever accessible.

Overall I prefer the Logitech, it's just a better mouse. The lower version of the optical Logitech mice is an awesome mouse as well. The MS lower version feels like it's missing part of it when you hold it because of it's ambidextrous design.

You'll probably want to know how I would know this... DPI as far as how Razer & Karna put it, is how many times the mouse looks at the input of the ball per second. Well, the logitech takes 1800 "pictures" /sec, the MS is self explanatory.

You can barely tell the difference between 1800 & 2000.

I killed an Explorer & that's why I use the logitech now. The MS died in 2 months. I have been using the Logitech for well over 5 months and still have no problem with it.

With the MS ones you can scroll faster and more easily . I have the MS intellimouse optical.

I've used two or three of the Microsoft Explorers and the buttons feel too mushy to me, don't like it.

I much prefer my Logitech.

Krenotenze: Just FYI the frequency on the "eye" in optical mice is not directly compareable to DPI.

Is the logitech actually a lower freq. than the MS ones? I thought they were the same eye inside? Where did you see that the Logitech refresh slower? Not that I think you are lying, I'm just curious.

Well, I exchanged the MS mouse for the Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse this morning. I didn't see the ifeel mouse on sale for $35.88, but that's only about $6 more than my basic Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse. Does this mean I have to make another trip to OD?

BTW, I'm assuming the $20 off deal is now expired due to its absence on the Hot Deals threads. Just curious.

Get the Logitech one. I have it and it works great. My friend has the Microsoft one, and it freezes on him all the time for no reason. Definately Logitech all the way!
