Hey guys

I don't know what to label this title and I don't know if many people will have the answer I'm looking for. Basically I'm in a jiffy and time is running out.

My questions is has anyone here ever imported a console from outside the U.S?

I want to buy a special edition Playstation 4 from Japan but as I'm about to check out, I notice a warning that say that the final cost of the PS4 might not be the final cost I have to pay to receive it because the U.S import could charge VAT and taxes and other unknown. I try contacting U.S custom but all I get is a stupid operator. I even email them but they say it could take up to 2 to 3 weeks...okay...

If anyone know the answer, please let me know. I have never order or purchase anything oversea so I don't know what to expect. And if so how much more money do I have to pay for custom fees and what not?

Thanks

It all really depends on the company that ships it and the status of rules for import the the US at the time of receiving it in customs. I have purchased mostly games and controllers from a couple different companies in Japan that specialize in exports to the US. For those, I didn't have any extra customs fees, but it could be different for a console itself.

I'd suggest getting it from someone reputable like Play-Asia:

http://www.play-asia.com/games/playstation4/consoles/14/711tj

They should also be able to answer your questions and are more likely to provide support after the sale if you get a defective one.

They also offer testing of the unit to catch a DOA:

Warranty: Please be reminded that this Japan console's warranty is not covered by Play-Asia.com and customers will need to contact Sony directly. We offer a free pre-shipping test which is recommended. Please contact our customer service team if you wish us to test your console before shipping.

I've ordered Gameboy systems in the past from Japan and never had a problem. It takes a while to get here though at times depending on the shipping method. You might have to pay for import taxes or something in the shipping now, I honestly forget if I had to or not.

Last time I imported anything was my Catleap monitor from Korea. It arrived in 3 days and had no extra taxes associated with it.

Thanks everyone who reply. After reading more on this topic and in other forum, I realize that there is no warranty being covered with international purchase.

I guess I will buy the Star Wars PS4 unless something better come along.
