Please help me

I just installed this new video card on my GA-7N400 Pro2 board and I'm finding that HL2 & Far Cry Run Like crap😀. I have adjusted the video settings to low in FC (far cry) the texture looks great but the movement is horrible. In HL2, when ever there is an explosion of some sort the screen locks up for a second and then the game continues.

I have an AMD XP3500+ with 512 DDR XPSP2. The old Video card that I had in there was a Nvidia Geforce 4 TI 128 and it ran sweet, no problems. Could It be that I may need an upgrade on my RAM or is it simply that this is a crappy card??
Please help me.
I have downloaded all the latest drivers from Nvidia but to no avail, the problem continues.

First off, there's no such processor as an XP3500+

You need more RAM to smoothly play those games,, & unfortunately, your FX5500 is barely an upgrade from your TI.

I would try completely uninstalling all drivers using "Driver Cleaner" (google it), & then reinstalling.

Then start saving for some more RAM, & a better video card 🙂

I would say the GF4 Ti was probably better then the 5500.

A Geforce4 TI series card is definitely faster than that garbage 5500 card. You downgraded your card, not upgraded.

Return it then come back to us for recommendations on a new/better card! 🙂

Sorry for the typo, i ment to say that I have a 3200+, and I thank you all for your replies.
What are the chances that Tiger Direct would let me return the card? My friend bought it for me as a gift and he moved to Texas, he paid with a CC and I dont have the receipt. Do you all think if I bring it in and tell them I want to upgrade for a better card they would let me with out a receipt??
