Nothing you can buy today will play tomorrow's games at a decent rate... definately not what most people are used to seeing with current games. Right now you should get a cheap "filler card" that will play today's games at an acceptable rate without breaking the bank. A 9600 Pro or 9600 XT would be a good choice. The FX5700 Ultra also looks like a good choice but is a bit more expensive. If you want something near top of the line, a 9800 non-pro or FX5900 non-ultra would be your best bet. If you pay $400-500 for a top of the line card now, you'll be pissed in 3 months when it won't run new games with all the eye candy on.

I VERY highly doubt it... there are much more demanding games than Max Payne 2 and they don't require more than 128 MB.

The difference between 128 and 256 is pretty much non existant right now... by the time it makes a difference the performance of the card will be so poor no matter how much RAM it has that you won't want it anyway.

No way. MP2 play excellent on my ti4200 128mb. You would only need 256mb if you turned aa/af up all the way and were playing at the highest res.
