So anyone know if the patch was already built into SP4?

Not sure, however to be on the safe side, i'd install the separate patch anyway 🙂

Robor, I shall be getting myself a wireless router (probably SMC, actually!) sometime soon...just need to quit spending money on bits for my carputer...and my car (getting a 1967 Ford Anglia 105E, needs quite a bit of work done on it)

I dunno if I'd recommend the SMC router. Maybe it's just my model (can't remember model but it's the 22Mb wireless model) but my SMC has *TERRIBLE* range and this is with a matching SMC wireless card. The signal strength can be low even in the same room as the router. I do have it encrypted but I can't imagine that would affect it. My friend has an Linksys and said he's got good range with his.

Ahhh...might go with something else then! 🙂 Not really been looking round at stuff properly, but I saw the SMC mentioned in Networking here a couple of times, and you mentioning it too jogged my memory! 🙂

FYI, I've been using Linksys Wireless Router with 4 port switch since they came out with it. I have a computer about 160 feet away and it works great. I have 128 Bit WEP enabled and does not broadcast SSID🙂 Although yesterday, one of the switch port died🙁 I don't know if the newer G version can connect as far as the older one. I'll find out in a few months.

I'm all clear now.

Installed the patch and turned on the internet connection firewall. I'm running Zone Alarm on my computer and have had a massive number of Port 135 attacks.

Yeah same here ,I cleared the alerts this morning & it maxed out(500 alerts) before I got back from work at 1730!:Q

Btw it seems ZA kept me safe despite not having done the patch (though Win2k was on SP3 ,was that enough to stop it?)

I know several people from work who've had their PCs infected ,it seems this 1 is a biggy?

It will be the firewall, not SP3 that protected you.

I'm going round to someone's house tonight (reminds me....gotta call her) who has been hit by this, gonna install the patch (hey, gotta make some money when you can!!)

This one is a biggy, and thankfully the person(s) who are doing it made it very "kind", and didn't do too much damage with it, cos they could have done a LOT of damage!

I left my computer to download last night and when I woke up Zone Alarm had maxed out at 500 notices, mostly Port 135 knocks.
Just based on how often it pops up it seems to be slowing down, but I still am getting probably around 1 or 2 per minute.

I had to go fix a previous boss' computer today because he had gotten the virus. Wasn't too bad, there was a fix from symantec and then I had to patch windows.

Anyone wanna here an amusing story on this worm?
went to fix my grandma's computer, scanned for it, deleted it, fixed the registry, manually updated the security update from microsoft, and left it running while eating supper, got finished, and it was infected again, so I fixed it again, and she was telling me about here dates on her e-mail she sends as being in Jan, she wasn't getting the updates from microsoft! I changed the date on her clock and she had some 19 critical updates missing (looks like the worm can get around the new update if others haven't been applied) I hope I got it fixed now, what a mess.
