I bought two of these Panaflows. They come with a 2-pin tail with red and blue connection colors. I also bought two of these Panaflows. They are bare wire leads with the colors of red, black and yellow. To be safe, I ordered four of these connects. Now for my question, how the heck do I use them?

Edit - I'm officially a retard... I figured it out.

Pull out the old tail and connect the new one. I completely looked it over, dont know how.

Anyhow... dissapointment struck. I hooked these sweet fans up to my AeroCool GateWatch in hopes to tame them. Unfortunately, the GateWatch cannot control the RPM of the fan. (Anyone know why?)

So now I have two options:

A - Buy new fans that will work with the GateWatch.
B - Buy a new fan controller.

I'd like to hear from the people with Panaflows that are also running a working controller.

Connect the fan and measure the voltage on the red wire with respect to the black wire with of the fan with a volt meter while you adjust the RPM. Does the voltage shown by the meter change?

Just in case you do not know:
The fan RPM is controlled by adjusting the voltage on the wire in the middle with respect to the black wire. http://www.svc.com/pana3ptail.html

The other wire, which is also red in this picture, is only used to monitor the RPM. It has nothing to do with controlling the RPM.
How did you solder the tail to your fan? Which wire to what?

No soldering was done. I simply yanked the bare wires and the connecter that was attatched to Panaflows and swapped it with the four 3-pin connectors that I purchased.

Edit - And my 3-pin is different than the one shown. Instead of two reds and a black, I have yellow, black and red.

I don't have experience with this particular controller. But, it sounds like you may need to program it so that it allows RPM control without monitoring the RPM.
It may have a safety feature that sets the RPM at maximum when it detects low RPM. If the fan does not have the RPM monitor signal, the controller may think that the fan is not spinning at all!

That is why I suggested measuring the voltage provided to the fan. If the voltage did not change, my suspicion would be confirmed. You may want to have a look at the user's manual of the controller.
