my computer was workin fine until 2 days ago.
i am runnin a 1.33ghz athlon (non-oc) with 512mb crucial pc2100 ddr ram.
i was watchin a movie on my computer. after an hour of the movie, my comp just restarted. i just let it reboot and continued the movie. the comp restarted like 30 seconds into the movie. when it rebooted, i got a blue screen error saying something about ACPI and the bios needing an update. i called my friend and he told me something was wrong with the ram. so i took one of the 256meg ram out. i rebooted and it was successful. so now, i am runnin on 1.33 and 256mb ddr pc2100 crucial ram. the problem is, i still get random restarts, and if i try to put my other ram stick in, i get that stupid blue screen error about ACPI and the bios not being up to date. please help me out.🙁

1st, RMA the RaM.

Video card? make/model? Give us specs to werk with...

At a first guess, you have a via chipset, you didn't install the 4in1 patch and your geforce2mx is causing the conflict with your mobo...

but that's a guess...😉

Random restarts are generally caused either by the ram or the power supply.

Have the ram tested in another computer if you can, and check out the voltage in your bios to make sure the power supply is delivering the correct voltage and not fluctuating to a great degree.

i have:

leadtek geforce2 pro 32mb
tdk 12x10x24x burner
asus 50x cd-rom
1.33ghz axia y (non-oced)
512mb crucial pc2100 (using only 1 of the 256mb) (the other on is messed up i think)
western digital 40gb hard drive
400watt power supply
swiftech mc462-a
creative labs sound blaster pci512

one more thing, when all this nonsense happened, i just found out that my floppy drive isn't there anymore =( win2k aint detectin my a: drive

also, i can't even (shut down / restart / the rest of the options in that area) my comp properly anymore. i have to press the stupid power button. then it will goto shut down.
