Ok so I got my free copy of winXP pro from microsoft.
Ive tried on an empty drive and my drive that currrently has winME on it, everytime it starts to install after the first reboot the screen goes black after the black winXP loading screen, hangs up for awhile then goes on to a blue screen error that says make sure all new hardwear is installed correctly.
WinXP only says i might need to install more softwear for my Network adapters WAN Miniport (ATW, and for my hp printer and 3deep.
i guess i will keep trying

try taking out everything except your video card. if install goes well, you can add all your other PCI devices in later

TerriLeLuv, I've never had a problem installing XP on a system w/ the bare essentials installed. On the last build I did, I couldn't get XP to install w/ the NIC card in for some reason, so give sohcrates' suggestion a try and post your results. Hope this helps.

I agree, start with the concesus of only having your video card insterted. Then add other pci devices one at a time. You might want to check with your pci card mfgrs. to see if they have updated drivers / patches.

Well guys, I tried your suggestion..
I unplugged everything and left just video card, and i still come up with the blue screen that says make sure all hardware and softwear are properly installed. creative gives no xp updates for my video card
could it be possible that my mobo is too old? microsoft doesnt list it as nonXP compatible. So I dont know.
heres what ive got
40gig maxtor hd C: where im trying to install
17gig hd
creative 24 cdrom
acer cdrw
amd 400 with american megatrends mobo
128 meg ram
creative savage 4 3d video card
nic card

so what next. any suggestions? should i upgrade anything if so what? winME blue screens daily even on a fresh hard drive install.
thanks
terri

try scandisk on ur hard drive. if there are bad sectors, it could be causing errors on every fresh install
