I was in Frys looking at games today and I saw one that caught my eye. It looked like a shooter and it was set in the Wild West with gunslingers and such. I told myself I was going to check it out online but unfortunately by the time I got home I'd forgotten the name. I think it was a one word title and I thought it might be "Shoot" but I can't find that anywhere. It was on the end of the isle with a bunch of copies and it looked like a recent game with good graphics. Anyone know what it is?

Also, there was an shelf marked "adventure" games and some of the games caught my eye. I noticed that most of them said adventurecompanygames.com on the box. Anyway here is the list of their games: Text. Has anyone played any of these and have anything good to say? Been doing some reading and apparently these are point and click games where you just go through and explore, with some light puzzles. Sounds like something I might like since I get tired of shooting stuff over and over and I just want something relaxing where I can kick back and enjoy the graphics. I'm thinking of picking up the Dracula games or the Egyptian ones.

Is the Western game Gun (gametab link)?

My wife plays some of the adventurecompany games. They are made by different people, but all are basically graphical adventure games. She's played through several of the games on that list and has liked some and disliked others. I seem to recall her enjoying The Cameron Files games. I'm not sure they were her favorite or if they were, why; I just happen to remember those.

The all basically have the same structure in that you move between different environments; interact with some pretty flat characters, usually with terrible voice acting; pick up things to use on other things; and solve various types of puzzles. Graphics tend to be pretty but not really varied -- think Myst. The genre is old old old, so there are some freely available graphical and text adventure games you can just download. Many of the old graphical games by LucasArts can be run with ScummVM (download page) and I believe you can download several older games for free.

In the Text Adventure vein, you can find various Zork titles online which are basically the prdecessors to these graphical adventures.

I never heard of those adventurecompanygames titles... I wouldn't risk it myself. There are plenty of good point and click games made by reputable companies - the Myst series and the older Lucasarts games come to mind (LOL sam and max hit the road). Or theres always RPGs if you just want something other than a shooter.

I'm gonna get a cheap copy of one of thse adventure games on eBay just to try it out.

As for Gun, checked a couple reviews and it looks good and I don't see too many Wild West games. I don't mind short games... I tend to get bored on the long ones anyway.
