I want to get my system down to $1500, and I am so close, but dont know where to skimp.
Plz help me.

Antec Performance I P180 $135
DFI LP UT nF4 SLI-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI $168
XFX PVT70GUDF7 Geforce 7800GT 256MB $384
FSP Group (Fortron Source)400W Power Supply $67
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 $357.01
OCZ Peroformance 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) $224.43
Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB $183
COOLER MASTER Hyper 6+ $54.99

Total: $1,573.43

I'm so close.

Drop the OCZ Performance RAM down to OCZ Value. You won't see much of a performance decrease at all, and when you overclock, you can just set a memory divider. Also, there's a 450W Fortron on Newegg for $50 that should be good enough to power that system. Also, SLI is a huge waste of money, so you can get the Lanparty Ultra-D instead.

I'm so close.

We have the motherboard cheaper:

nForce4 SLI-D $160.52

We've also got the P180 cheaper ($124.99) but techonweb has a better price than us:

P180 - $105.30

That will shave about $50 off your total costs right there.

IS there a reason you're getting a SLI mobo? I'd go with a NF4 Ultra motherboard.

Are you planning to overclock by a serious amount or just going for a slight overclock or not overclocking at all? I'd look at keeping the stock HSF if not overclocking or only doing a very moderate overclock, using AS5 or Ceramique of course.

I do plan on overclocking, and I can get some ceramique. I plan on getting the second video card in two to four weeks, when I get another pay check. I want it under 1500, cause Ive been saving forever, and had alot of things come up and slow me down, and I just don't want to wait two more weeks, even though I probably should.

MSI k8n neo 4 board - $80

also ditch the raptor

edit just saw your post on 2nd vid card. ko, stick with sli board, go with a cheaper hard drive.

if u look around the hot deals forum u can find the 7800GT for <375, maybe even 350. I've also seen somewhere selling the 74gb raptor for $150.

u can also get the XClio 450W psu (same makers of Antec PSUs) from newegg. I got it last month for my AMD build and its been cruising along just fine.

U can also ditch the P180, and get the Antec 3000B for 45$ shipped from amazon.

Ditch the DFI, get the EVGA SLI + EVGA 7800 GT combo for $400, which comes witha $40 MIR. Does XFX offer a lilfetime warranty? Cuz EVGA does.🙂

I would get the DFI Nf4 Ultra-D and perform the sli mod. You'll save some money and have the exact same board. (I purchased mine from monarch for 129 shipped)

I can Build the same computer for $900 with 1GB or RAM- More RAM can be added when the cost of 4GB (2GB x 2) is less than $100. 1GB is fine for todays needs.

SLI is retarded... Just get a 7800GTX. That'll cost a lot less than SLI'd 7800GT's, but you'll still get top of the line performance.

I have assembled a Machine that is Cheaper and Faster than the one you listed. It Includes a 24 Pipe 7800GTX instead of the 20 Pipe GT. It is important to note that I used DDR 500 instead of DDR400 because the AMD memory controller does support those speeds.

1368Dollars.png I can shave the costs further with out sacrificing much speed or quality .

Dude there is too much too list here to change that build....

1. Mother board is dumb idea...go with the Ultra D not the SLI, or go with the Epox 9npa+ Ultra.

2. I wouldn't bother with that OCZ Performance (not a big fan of that) go with some OCZ Value instead.

3. The Raptor is a waste of money dude, please just dump that now!!!! I own two 74GB Raptors that I purchased when they were still the fastest. I also own some newer drives that are just as quick with more storage space, and they didn't cost as much.

4. If you really play around with the options you have at a $1500 budget you can upgrade to a 7800GTX.

Get a good 80gb Seagate SATA drive for about half that price.

Also, I don't understand why anyone would pay 300,400 & 500 dollars for a video card just to play games on a computer. Maybe I am just to old for that type of stuff. I don't see any future in playing computer games. Get yourself some programming package and learn how to program and get rich and then maybe when you have so much money that you don't have to worry about how to pay for a computer, you can then play games.

look out, duck !!!
