PLEASE help me choose the best 1gb x 2 for my 4400+ / DFI Lanparty system!

I'm building the following system:

4400+ X2
DFI Lanparty SLI
BFG 7800GTX OC
etc..

It will be used primarily for Gaming and desktop apps. (Pls no suggestions on getting an FX)

My original config had 2x512mb of OCZ PC4000 VX Gold with the intent to upgrade later to another 2x512 but I have read so much conflicting information I canceled the order to do more research.

Essentially:

What is the BEST 1gb stick out there, performance-wise? I have the volts w/ DFI so anything's in.

Where can I find a review of 1gb sticks of memory?

I'd really appreciate the help!

1gb sticks would probably give much worse o/c than 512mb sticks.

Yes I am looking to OC, my original thought was "wait until better tech comes out for 1gb sticks" but now I'm not so sure...

Thanks man, what info did you use in determining that these sticks would be best?

Hmm well I'm building a system similar to yours myself (same proc, mobo, see "ordering soon" in sig), and I know OCZ works best with the DFI boards. Based on what I've heard people saying around the forums about the OCZ Platinum DIMMs, and their 2-3-2 timings, I decided on getting them myself. Reading customer reviews and other stuff indicate that these are great OCing sticks, I guess the only downside is that they are expensive.

Thanks, I may very well take your advice. Are these the best out there for 1gb sticks in your view or is there something superior?

i think ocz is sipposed to be coming out with a cl2.5 pc400 but i don't know when. my mushkins are great on the dfi sli-dr, 250mhz @ 2.5-3-3-8. i haven't seen better at cl2.5. some of the ballistix pc4000 are hitting cl3 @260-270 but its all a crap shoot.

edit, o bought mine from tank guys but i saw some mushkin hp blue pc3200 for 219 i think at tiger :Q

Well there are the Platinum Rev2 modules that give you 2-2-2, but they cost even more, and probably wouldn't give much of a performance increase. For the DFI boards, OCZ is the most compatible memory for OCing I believe, plus it has a lifetime warranty up to 2.8V.

Edit: 2.8V not 2.6

you have to remember that alot of these use the same chips...

mushkin/patriot/ocz all use infineon be-5 whre as the crucial value and ballistix use the same chip, bh-5 or something , they're just binned differently.

is the most comprehensive datbase i've seen. still need a lot more modules to get a better feel. and again, its a crap shoot.

good luck with what you get. the other good thing about the xs thread is all the dfi boards and a64 tweaker screenies.

I see you went with the Mushkin HP blue

Any thought on those vs the OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) Dual Channel Platinum?

Or is it just a crapshoot like you said?

I have the OCZ EL Platinum 2-3-2-5 2GB. They are sweet!

You have almost all the same barebone components as me. You won't be dis-appointed.

i have friends who use mushkies 512's on the dfi and they love them. i've always been a fan of ocz but figured i'd try the 1 gigs. needless to say, i'm not disappointed 😛

but yes, its a crap shoot. some of the reviews i saw said the mushkies would go above 209mhz at stock and 220ish cl3. one guy said he got 240 i think so i held onto that review and prayed, lol.

then again, i don't think those guys try all that much.

one of these days i'll see how far they go cl3.

Well it was a tough choice but I went with the HP Mushkin because they were the only ones I could find reviews on and the two reviews I did read gave them high marks, one editor's choice.

🙂

Thank you everyone for your help !

shoulda told you to check tankguys, they were 271 but they have awesome support. i'd love to see them do well. 😉

good luck with the sticks, let us know 🙂

Actually I should have gone with tankguys, I actually meant to but wasn't thinking about it when I ordered.

I had an experience with them just the other day that was totally awesome.

I would love to see them do well also
