I have never put a cpu fan onto the cpu. I would like some help so i dont screw it up. I have an AMD 1.33 chip, Taisol fan, and a thing of Artic Silver II. Is it as simple as it seems, any help would be great. Thanks

just to get things started before somebody posts more ideas. This is how I'd do it:

Smear a thin layer of thermal paste on the cpu (t-bird: little chip on top)
Put CPU in Socket
Put fan on top as level as you can and press clips onto socket. For me I had to first slant the cooler otherwise I just couldn't get the clips to snap in. Try to have it press down as level as you can onto the paste and cpu.

That should do it for starters...

throught all these instruction be extremely careful and whateva u do TAKE YOUR TIME!

take the stock heat sink off

clean off the gunk that is on your cpu die with rubbing alochol

make sure its pretty clean

than take the artci silver II and apply a really really small amount right on teh die of your chip
than use an old credit card or someting to taht extent and spread it aroudn till its and extremely thin layer

or u can put some AS2 on a peiece of paper than apply it so

next take the taisol HSF and make sure u have the back to the back and the front to the front

and than put the back part into the socket and carefully lower the rest of the HSF onto the chip

next use a screwdriver and attach the clip to the front of the socket

and there u go
oh yeah make sure u plug in your fan header to your motherboard :)

whateva u do TAKE YOUR TIME!

and just be careful

its really easy

i've only switched my hsf like 2-3 times and done my firends like once or twice

so i guess a very simple method of doing it :)

I do agree with DoOLiE11. TAKE YOUR TIME. Do not put excessive force while putting clip or you may break core. I had Celeron 366 and Volcano II hsf. I had a hell of a hard time to put clip on Sloket but Celerons are way stronger than AMD and PII or PIII,PIV.

are u using the three prong clip right?

that suckers pretty hard to get on just use a small screwdriver and fit it inbetween the clip there shold be a spot for the screwdrive to fit in. and just gently push down and twards the socket
