ok, I formatted my GF pc and i am unable to get her sound to work again. she has a built in sound card to her MSI MS-6769 MB. i have tried many msi drivers from their site but i must be installing the wrong one. i installed XP and the VGA drivers with 0 problems but the sound drivers is proving to be a real pain.
can someone tell me what one to use?
it would be very helpful!!
thanks

I suggest you find out what audio chipset is on the board, i.e. ac97, crystal, whatever, and then go to the hardware oem's site and look for drivers.

its a ac97, i tried the newest driver for the ac97 from the msi site. the pc recognized that it had sound but only fuzz would be played back. all other drivers that i tried, nothing would happen, there would not even be a speaker in the system tray

Well, assuming that IS the motherboard, I'm sure these would be the ones you need. However, I'm assuming these are the ones you tried. Have you tried re-installing DirectX or running dxdiag to see if there's any issues in there?

The onboard sound can be disabled in the BIOS. Also, if there are no drivers installed, and there is a functioning ac97 on the mobo, XP should be giving you the "Found new hardware" dialog on boot. Is that happening?
